Home Study Course: Intro to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) (6 hours)
This home study course fulfills the requirements for SIX CE hours (6 hours).
DBT is a powerful, evidence-based therapy originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan in the late 1980s and published in the early 1990s. While DBT was first designed to support individuals dealing with chronic suicidal ideation and Borderline Personality Disorder, its principles have since expanded to help people facing a wide range of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and substance use disorders. At its core, DBT combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices and focuses on creating a balance between acceptance and change. It offers a structured approach to help individuals build a toolkit of practical skills to regulate emotions, manage distress, improve interpersonal relationships, and cultivate a present-focused, compassionate mindset. Through DBT, clients can develop the resilience needed to navigate life’s challenges more effectively. This training will introduce the foundational elements of DBT: the four primary skill modules, which include Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. We’ll also explore how these skills can be applied both in therapeutic settings and in clients’ day-to-day lives. Our goal is for you to leave this training with a solid understanding of DBT's principles and tools, as well as a sense of how to bring its transformative practices to the clients you work with.
